Google Expeditions - Virtual Field Trips!

We had a great time with Google Expeditions!  They visited our school on 11/24 and all of our students were able to take a virtual field trip in their social studies class.  The day and experience went off without a hitch and I think the teacher had more fun than the students.  Check out the www.rcscsd.org homepage for details (coming soon).  Some of the trips the students took were to Rome and Egypt, Washington DC, NYC and Mount Rushmore.  They were even able to take some side trips to swim with sharks, or see penguins.

We would love to get a set of google cardboards to use at school for when google expeditions goes live, so we have a doners choose project at Doners Choose Google Cardboard to raise money to get these wonderful tools in our school.

The Scholastic Book Fair is here at the Middle School from December 2-8th, come by and do some holiday shopping!

Google Expeditions is Coming Our Way!!!

There are definitely some exciting things happening in the Middle School Library.  One November 5th, Google Expeditions will be visiting RCS Middle School and taking all of our students on virtual field trips in their Social Studies Classes.  Google Expeditions brings all the equipment necessary for this virtual field trip.  Each student will get to experience using Google Cardboard and see places they would probably not be able to visit.  We are so excited.

I am currently trying to get a set of Google Cardboard for the Middle School.  I have created a Doner's Choose Project (just click on the words) to help fund this project.  This will allow us to take virtual field trips on our own.  Please think about donating.

GAFE is Here!

It has been quite a busy month.  Library/Tech classes have started for the sixth grade.  Students are excited to get into the computer lab and start learning.  We are using Google Apps for Education (GAFE) as a learning platform this year.  The students are given school based email accounts and use those to go to an online classroom where they are able to access, complete and turn-in assignments.  The beauty is, they are able to access their accounts from anywhere on any device that has internet access! No more lost, crumpled or left in locker papers!

The GAFE Pilot at the Middle School is also expanding to include other teachers and subjects.  I will be working with both social studies teachers to implement these productivity tools into their existing curriculum.  Teachers using GAFE also include seventh grade social studies; eighth grade English, health and eighth grade science.  We are excited and ready for the opportunity to incorporate this educational technology into our school culture.  Check back for updates on the progress of the different projects!

Welcome Back

Welcome back to a new year here at RCS Middle School.  There have been a few changes here.  The sixth grade has a Library/Tech class taught by me! We will be learning how to locate, access and use information safely and appropriately in a digital world. I am so excited to be back in the classroom on a daily basis.

In addition our Google Pilot was pretty successful here at the middle school, so it has been expanded to include an additional 12 participants, between the Middle School and the High School.  They worked hard over the summer to get things up and running.  We are pretty excited to see where this can lead.

The Fall Book Fair is scheduled for the beginning of December this year.  Just in time to purchase those holiday gifts, and support your school at the same time.
